Frances Krsinich joined Motu Research after doing some part-time work, helping with the development of a land price index for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development. She then joined the team permanently in July 2026.
With her extensive experience in official statistics, Frances brings a strong focus on measurement methods and frameworks. In her 20+ year career at Stats NZ she worked first as a methodologist doing sample design for business surveys, along with developing confidentiality methods and policies in the early years of Datalab. Then a move to the inflation measurement area, where Stats NZ has since moved to the forefront of international practice with the implementation of new methodologies for the use of alternative data sources such as scanner data and administrative data. Frances has also worked in Treasury NZ, in the TAWA microsimulation modelling team, and then MBIE and HUD, on housing statistics.
Frances’s skill, and passion, is for innovating in the tools we use for economic measurement. Alongside this, a career in official statistics has given her a lot of experience in what’s involved in putting new tools and techniques into production.
